Cartier Santos-Dumont Rewind

Our first highlight is this beautiful, limited edition, platinum Santos-Dumont Rewind WGSA0102. Built to the same wearable dimensions as the standard “large” model (31.5mm x 43.5mm x 7.3mm) and fitted with an alligator strap and a platinum pin buckle. Now to the important bits - aesthetically the carnelian dial and matching ruby cabochon set into the crown is a perfect combination. Secondly, the reason behind the "Rewind" name is that if you notice the numerals on the dial are reversed (I didn't see this at first), that the apple-shaped hands rotate counter-clockwise. This is powered by Cartier inverting the gearing of their 230 MC. Quirky - definitely. Pointless - maybe. Would I wear it - 100%. Find more of the latest Cartier releases here.

TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph

TAG are living up to their avant-garde name with this striking tribute to the original 1969 Monaco. The lightweight Grade 5 titanium and sapphire crystal case, with its alternating handmade finishes, encases the timepiece’s advanced mechanics, uniting form with high functionality. Equipped with their in-house calibre TH81-00 that holds a 65 hour power reserve. There are currently two options of dial colours - Original Blue and Racing Red and for a mere £121,000 why miss out on a colour and just buy both! See the rest of their new releases at their website.

IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Eternal Calendar

Now for some top-level engineering that has been 40 years in the making - The Portugieser Eternal Calendar from IWC Schaffhausen. The incorporation of a new moon phase reduction gear train with three intermediate wheels, developed through computing simulations of over 22 trillion combinations of gearing, has allowed for this crazy level of precision. With this innovative mechanism, the Double Moon™ display of the Portugieser Eternal Calendar theoretically only deviates from the moon's actual orbit by one day after approximately 45 million years. Accordingly, it has not been decided whether there will be a leap year in 3400 so the calendar is accurate until at least then (though I imagine the watch might need a service before then so if you're still around I wouldn't worry about a small detail like missing a leap year at that stage). No price has been announced yet but it will be understandably expensive. Take a closer look at this masterpiece here.

Zenith Defy Extreme Diver

Something a bit more fun and every day is the new Zenith Defy Extreme Diver. Sitting on the wrist in a 42.5mm angular case crafted in titanium, it is equipped with a rotating black (or blue) ceramic bezel and helium escape valve with a water-resistance of 60 ATM (600 metres). You can choose between the black star-patterned dial shown in the image below or the matching blue dial, both with luminescent markers and hands. Powered by the El Primero 3620 SC automatic movement with 60 hours power reserve, it is one of the few deep ranged divers watches that has an exhibition caseback (thankfully as the El Primero is a personal favourite to admire). Both colours come with the corresponding interchangeable strap system with titanium bracelet, rubber strap and single-piece fabric strap made of recycled fishing nets. Priced at just over 10k, it will be interesting to see how well these sell over the next year or so. See both colour models and more at Zenith
